3DFitBud Simple Step Counter (3DActive A420S), Pink

A small clip-on pedometer that counts steps and shows one number, with no app, no account and no charging, carried through the day. We read the Amazon listing, the 3DActive product page and the printed manual.

The short version

  • A steps-only pedometer (model A420S) with a 3-axis motion sensor and a 1.7 in display, 2.4 × 1.6 × 0.4 in and about 24 g, running on one pre-installed CR2032 coin cell.
  • $24.99 on Sep 30, 2026 for the Pink color, sold by a seller named 3D Active and shipped by Amazon.
  • It shows steps and nothing else: no clock, distance, calories or phone sync, and you reset the count yourself.
Morning

Clipped on when you get dressed, so the morning walk counts.

Midday

A quick glance after a walking break or a lunchtime loop.

Evening

Read and noted before it comes off in the early evening.

Night

Not used at this time of day.

How it holds up in use

This is deliberately basic. There is nothing to pair and nothing to set: you remove the demonstration sticker from the screen, pull the battery tab, clip it on, and it starts counting when you move. The manual also describes a "10 step error prevention feature": the counter waits until it detects roughly 10 continuous steps before it starts recording, then adds those first steps to the total, which is meant to keep random non-walking movements from being logged as steps. Because the device only shows a running total, you decide when a "day" begins by pressing and holding the reset button, for example each morning.

The 3D sensor matters mainly for where you carry it. The maker says it counts in any orientation, clipped to a pocket or hip, around the neck on the lanyard, or loose in a pocket or bag. Any pedometer can over- or under-count depending on how and where it is worn, and we did not test accuracy ourselves. The sleep mode after a short spell without movement (60 seconds per the maker's FAQ, 3 minutes per the manual) is what allows a coin cell to last for months (the 12-month figure is the maker's claim).

A useful fact about the habit behind it: the US Physical Activity Guidelines are written in minutes, not steps. They advise adults to get at least 150 to 300 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, and to move more and sit less through the day [1]. The guidelines do not set a daily step target. A step count is therefore a rough, personal measure of how much you walked, handy for noticing a very still day, not a score the guidelines ask you to hit.

Before you buy

If you want a history of past days, a clock, or numbers on your phone, this is the wrong tool; it holds one running total until you reset it. If a health condition limits how much you should walk, ask a clinician about a sensible amount of activity before setting yourself any count.

How to fit it into your day

A simple sequence for using a steps-only counter alongside short walking breaks. The numbers are yours to read, not targets we set.

  1. Reset and clip on around 08:00

Hold the reset button until the count clears, then clip it to a pocket, waistband or the lanyard. Wear it in the same spot each day so days are comparable.

  2. Take short walking breaks

Stand up and walk for a few minutes between desk tasks: to refill a bottle, to a farther restroom, or around the block. Our habit note on walking breaks covers what the guidance and research say.

  3. Glance, don't chase around 13:00

Check the number after lunch to see whether the morning was unusually still, and plan a walk if it was.

  4. Write it down around 19:30

Before taking it off, jot the total in a planner or notes app if you like to see trends. The device itself will not remember it once you reset.

Price and where it is sold

On Sep 30, 2026, the Amazon listing for the 3DFitBud Simple Step Counter (A420S) showed $24.99 for the Pink color, in stock, sold by 3D Active and shipped from Amazon, with a free 30-day refund or replacement window. Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone who wants daily history, distance, a clock or phone sync: a pedometer with memory or an activity tracker suits better.
  • Anyone who dislikes coin-cell batteries: the CR2032 is replaceable but not rechargeable.
  • Anyone with a condition that affects how much walking is safe should agree an activity plan with a clinician; a counter is not a substitute for that advice.
